Patrick Zephyr is a nature photographer from Fall River, Massachusetts. When he was growing up he liked to look for amphibians, reptiles, and insects. He went to college to get his bachelors degree in exercise science at the University of Massachusetts. After he graduated he went on a three month canoeing trip and bought his first camera to take pictures on the trip, and he’s been taking pictures ever since. He eventually decided to turn nature photography into a full time profession. He’s explored many places such as British Colombia, rainforests and mountains on the west coast, everglades and many National Parks. His favorite place to take pictures is in his own backyard. Most of his pictures have been taken within 30 miles of his house.
He is now an award winning photographer. His pictures are displayed throughout New England. His photos have also been in many newspapers, magazines, corporate publications, and textbooks. He has sold thousands of limited edition prints to customers throughout the world. He likes to do the printing, framing and matting of his own pictures. His goal as a nature photographer is to show the beauty and magic of the natural world, he also wants to show that you can find this beauty and magic right in our own backyards.
His photographic goal is to be as true to his subject as possible. He says that he learned very early in his career that if he wants his photos to be good he needs to “see what the camera sees.” His favorite times of day to photograph are dawn and dusk, when the night and day transform. He believes that the most important element to a photo is the light. He spends many hours wandering and searching throughout the day searching for the right light.
I admire his work because he is very passionate about what he does and he has a very strong message to people about nature and the beauty of the world. I think it’s amazing that most of his pictures have been taken in his backyard and he hasn’t run out of things to explore. It shows that he has a very open mind and is very smart about his work.
